Silence

I sit in solitude,
With the darkness of night
Gently falling upon me.
Sweet silence -
That awakens a man to
The voice of God to his own soul
She comes,
So propitiously soft
And warmly embraced me with familar longing
Sweet silence -
Humour me,
And instruct me,
Granting me the foretaste of heavenly bliss?
Why must you come
And then, depart so soon?
Could you not see
That my soul aches to rest on you?
To feel the touch of your hands
That comfort and encourage?
And the fairest sweet...
You have come less frequently...
Have you also rejected me like my friends?
Come...
The night is young.
Let me savour your love -
My treasure from above.

The late Elder Soh Eng Hwa
